Stormy Sunday

The weather forecast was predicting some rain and thunderstorm on Sunday. We took a gamble and went fishing.

We got to the water after the lunch, and the weater was still OK.
We fished for a few hours, catching a few fish.

The storm finally arrived when we decided to pack up.

天気予報によると雷雨の可能性ありとの事でしたが、ダメもとで釣りに行きました。釣りをしながら空を気にしていましたが、釣りを終えて車に戻るまでは雨も雷もありませんでした。

ところで、僕の竿は６フィート４インチの竹竿、友達の竿は７フィートのカーボン。雷が落ちる時はどっちに落ちるのでしょうか？　やっぱりフェルールが金属の竹竿の方がヤバいんでしょうか。

My friend caught his first trout on a dry fly.

At the first pool and on the first cast. Well done!

川で釣るのは初めてだという友達でしたが、最初のプールで、しかもキャスト一回であっさりと決めました。

お見事。クリスマス島まで行ってボーンフィッシュを釣って来ただけの事はあります。

Afternoon casting session

We had another casting test yesterday. Rio Gold line, which Chris asked me to try, feels very nice with the new rod.

友達が「作った竹竿に試してみな」と新品のRioのGold Lineをくれました。太っ腹です。 ラインが乗るに従ってバットがしなるセミ・パラボリックのアクションに合わせると、”Slingshot action"と言われるパワーのあるループでラインが飛んで行きます。

繊細さが売りのXPSが好きなんですが、この竿にはGold Lineの方が合っているようです。

I quite like the way this plastic reel looks on a bamboo rod. I might get one when I make a new bamboo rod for bream fishing on flats.

Loopのプラスチック製のリール。友達が「バンブーロッドにお似合い」と言うので竹竿に着けてみましたが、うーん、なかなか良いと思います。クロダイ用に竿を作ったら買おうかなあ。
