Japan Trip - Hiroshima, Himeji, and Nara

The Hiroshima Peace Museum was one place that we definitely wanted to see, and it was a moving experience as we expected.

実は、広島は多くの生徒が一番行きたいと言っていた場所です。僕にとっても初めての場所です。路面電車を降りて、すぐ目の前にある原爆ドームを見た瞬間はなんとも言えない感じでした。それまでワイワイ話していた生徒も「しーん」となっていました。資料館を見た後で生徒に「どうだった？」と聞くと、「悲しいけど、勉強になった」「来てよかった」と言っていました。

We then went to Himeji after lunch. Unfortunately we couldn't make to the gate before a closing time, so we didn't get to see inside of the Himeji Castle. But it was still a nice fine day, and we saw cherry blossoms blooming elegantly under the warm spring ligh around the castle.

広島の後で姫路に行ったのですが、残念ながら姫路城に着いた時はゲートがすでに閉まっていました。ただ城下の桜がとてもきれいで、それだけでも良かったかなあと思います。子供達はごねていましたが。

On a different day, we went to Nara to see Daibutsu, a giant statue of Buddha. I was impressed with its size but I thought kids were more interested in chasing local deers wandering around the park.

最後に奈良ですが、今回初めてだったのですが、東大寺の大仏はやっぱり大きかった。あと奈良の鹿も話には聞いていましたが、あんなに沢山いるとは思っていませんでした。

春日大社では、鹿のおみくじなるものがあって、小さな鹿の彫り物が口におみくじをくわえています。５００円とちょっとおみくじにしては高いのですが、鹿の人形は持って帰れるので良いかなあと思いました。それに普段、鹿の毛を毛鉤に使わせてもらっているので、まあ鹿の供養ではありませんが’、「ここは１つ買わなければ」と思い端にいた一頭を選びました。結果は「大吉」でした。

School Trip to Japan - Kyoto

After long months of planning and preparation, we finally made our way to Japan.

It was a great trip to see many interesting things and try many new things. I would like to thank the students and parents who came along for their smiles and tears which made me realized that the life of a teacher is a wonderful thing.

長い間待ちに待った、日本への修学旅行に行ってきました。

山あり谷ありでしたが、この先もずっと心に残るとても素晴らしい旅行でした。

さみしくなって泣いてしまった人、雨の中歩くのが嫌になってふてくされていた人、初めて見るものに感動して素敵な笑顔を見せてくれた人。みんなありがとう。

最初の夜に見た京都タワー。

Sanjyu-sangen-do holds an amazing number of the Thousand Armed Kannon statues. May their compassion bring a peace to those students whose life can be difficult sometime.

三十三間堂では観音菩薩を見ました。お寺の方によると観音様の教えは大慈悲との事。
その優しさが生徒の心に響きますように。

The day we went to see Ginkaku ji was a nice fine spring day, and cherry blossoms were stunning along the Philosopher's Path on which we walked to Nanzen ji.

銀閣寺に行ったのは春晴れの日。哲学の道を歩いて南禅寺へ。桜がとてもきれいな日でした。

Fishing on one summer day

It has been another hot and dry summer.
Fishing is getting harder and harder as the water gets lower and lower. We need some rain before trout get dried up.

イースターの連休に釣りに行ってきました。
夏の間、雨がほとんど降っていないので、川の水はチョロチョロていど。
足首ほどしかない瀬にはまったく魚の気配は無く、どころどころに残ったプールに数匹いる程度でした。

早く雨が降らないかなあ。
