Another quiet weekend

The weather was lousy. Fishing was average.

A school holiday and bream fishing

I am still on a school holiday. No class to teach. Spending another afternoon on a river.

Two pictures of the same bream. I like how the fish looks on the second picture.

I also caught a larger than average size Yellowtail Grunter.

Quiet sunday

Fishing was very quiet this afternoon. The tide was bit slow, and without wind, the water was hardly moving. It is not a good condition for bream fishing.

We tried a few places without success, but I finally hooked up one fish by casting around a marker (a green marker next to my friend on the picture). I thought a drop off near the marker would be an ideal ambush spot for a bream specially on a lazy day like today.

It is a major blowy spot on the low tide, but the tide was bit higher this afternoon, and I got connected to the fish on the second cast.

I was happy to land this fish not only it fought hard but also did that infront of bait fishing people who appeared to be catching blowy after blowy.

Fly fishing rocks!

Unpredictable

It is unpredictable. That is how I describe it to someone who is new to fly fishing for bream.

Fishing can be excellent one day. You get a hook up on every single cast. You pick the similar tide, the same time of the day, and go to the same streach of the river. You often get nothing next time.

This is where bream fishing is very different from trout fishing. Good lies almost always hold trout on anyday. It is a totally different story for bream.

One spot is good for a day or so. Fish will then move to different spots, and you have to find another school of fish somewhere. It could be only 30 m up or down stream or it could be 500 m or more.

A key for success is not to stay in one spot. You should rather move to a different spot if you don't get hit within 15 min. You can wait 2 or 3 days until fish come back to the same spot, or you can walk to the next bend or bay where you may find feeding fish.

Patience is virtue in life but not necessarily for bream fishing.

Bream weather

We went out to catch bream on the last weekend. We tried a section of Canning River down stream from the Shelly Bridge. The weather was beautiful but fishing was average.

Today, the weather was cold and bit windy. The sky was dark and the rain was on a way. It was a good "bream weather", I thought. So I went out to catch some bream.

The fishing turned out to be very good as I hoped. I had many hits and misses, and landed a couple of nice fish along with a few smaller ones.
