Rod test for bream #2

I finally had a chance to test my bamboo rod on breams.

I know a 4 weight graphite rod can handle breams including some large ones. That is a story for graphite.

I have been wonderling if 4 weight bamboo is as strong as graphite when it comes down to landing breams which fight much harder than trout of the same size do.

I hooked up a few small to medium size breams today, and the rod was handling the fish well. It feels to me a bamboo rod is much stronger than I thought.

先週末に続いて、バンブーロッドでクロダイ釣りです。釣る前は＃４の細いティップが心配でしたが、近所で釣れる平均サイズの魚なら＃４でも平気そうです。竹竿は思ったより丈夫みたいです。

Bamboo field test for bream

At the fly tying meeting today, we were watching nice fishing DVDs. After seeing those beautiful scenes in the films, I could no longer resist my fishing urge. I just wanted to go fishing. So I called my friend, and went to our usual spot to have an afternoon fishing.

It was a nice afternoon which deserve something different, so I took out my bamboo rod for the first time for catching black bream.

We didn't find bream at the end, but my trusty mohair minnow did its job to nail a few yellowtail grunters. It is always fun to catch grunter on a light rod, and I had twice amount of fun today by catching them on a bamboo rod.

フライタイイング・ミーティングで毛鉤を巻きながら、みんなで釣りのDVDを２、３本観ていました。ソルトな人達の集まりですが、なぜか鱒釣りのDVDがメインでした。中でもネズミのパターンでNZの巨大な鱒を釣るやつとカルフォルニアのスティールヘッドのDVD、それとベイリーズでパーミットを釣るDVDが面白かったです。

そんなのを観せられたら釣り魂に火がついてしまうのは当然です。ミーティングの後で早速友達に電話をしていつもの場所へをクロダイを狙いに行きました。竿はいつものグラファイトではなく、竹竿です。

クロダイは見つけられませんでしたが、Yellowtail Grunterを３匹釣りました。２５センチくらいにしかならない魚ですが、クロダイよりもアグレッシブで、ライトロッドで狙うと面白い魚です。竹竿でクロダイを釣ったらどうなるか次の週末が楽しみです。

Fly tying day

I went to a fly tying meeting today which was organised by a local saltwater flyfishing club.

People were being creative to tie all sorts of interesting flies, but to tell you a truth, I was more interested in checking their trade tools.

今日は、ソルトウォーター・フライフィッシング・クラブのタイイング・デイに行ってきました。＃１／０や＃２／０のフックにクラウザーやサーフキャンディーなんかを巻いている人達の中で、地味に＃１０のクロダイ用ストリーマーを２、３本巻いて来ました。
